Expert sees security issues with the Apple iPad

Apple's new iPad device looks like it will have some of the same security issues that affect the iPhone, such as weak encryption, a mobile security expert said on Thursday.

For one, if the iPad employs encryption the same way the iPhone does, sensitive personal data, including phone numbers and e-mail addresses, could be retrieved and viewed, says Daniel Hoffman, chief technology officer at SMobile Systems, which sells mobile security software.

"The problem with the iPhone security encryption is it is fundamentally worthless," he said. "It can be easily bypassed."

Secondly, if iPad users get their apps from the Apps Store, they are at risk of getting the occasional bad apple, Hoffman said, noting that there have been malicious apps found in the store.

In addition, the device is subject to man-in-the-middle attacks like any other device that uses unsecured Wi-Fi networks, he said.

  • How So?
To spite a predominantly Windows based marketplace, Mac has managed to successfully sell not only a proprietary OS, but a proprietary architecture for over 30 years with little or no advertising until just the last 7 or 8 years. Then they create the most popular smart phone ever which single handedly saved AT&T. Now they have made a device that at the very least will drive most of your e-readers out of the industry and take a large chunk of the netbook industry away from PC manufacturers. How is this by any degree, "Not doing well" - I could only hope for that kinda' "failure".

And in other news, the sky is blue and birds go 'tweet'.

Seriously, I wander how much these analysts get paid to make these [obvious] predictions? Can I get in on this? This economy has wrecked my travel plans and I could use some extra $$$.

  • STUPID article.
WARNING, WARNING!! IF the iPad is the same as the iPhone and IF they haven't patched the problems, then maybe there is a security issue. But I haven't used it yet and know nothing definitive about it yet. Now here's a list I made two years ago of what I don't like about the iPhone...

OK, got it...This is a the stupidest puff article I've ever read.
