Faster chips on parade at Intel Developer Forum

Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) this week in Palm Springs, Calif., will offer the first public discussions of two new chips at its semiannual Intel Developer Forum. This year's spring forum will offer public discussion of Intel's new low-cost chip, code-named Timna, and a new high-end processor capable of 1GHz and faster, code-named Willamette. The two chips, for desktop PCs, will debut in the second half of the year. Not to be outdone, Intel rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD) will also be in Palm Springs disucssing its high-end Athlon chip, which hit 850MHz last Friday. -- John G. Spooner, ZDNet News
