FBI makes arrest in 'Wolverine' uploading case
Summary
Topics
Gilberto Sanchez, 47, was arrested in the Bronx, N.Y., early Wednesday morning by FBI agents without incident, law enforcement sources told CNET. A spokeswoman from the FBI's Los Angeles field office, which led the investigation, confirmed the arrest.
If convicted, Sanchez faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine or twice the gross gain or gross loss attributable to the offense, whichever is greater.
When the feature film from 20th Century Fox was leaked to the Internet in April, it caused panic in Hollywood because the movie, which reportedly cost $100 million to make, was not scheduled for theatrical release until May. The fear was that Internet distribution of an unauthorized copy would hurt ticket sales.
By the time the movie screened in theaters, the unauthorized copy had been watched 4.1 million times, according to market researcher BigChampagne.

But it was not a good movie anyway . . .
Well you got to account for the fact that it was
an awful movie to begin with.

Why?
Is he wanted for copyright infringement?

That would probably be the CIA, and no they haven't.
He probably died. Or they caught him and didn't tell anyone. More fun to be had while pretending he's plotting with Saddam Hussein or the Iranian guy that sounds like "I'm a dinner jacket", who probably both actually hate(d) his guts.
Hey, remember when a CIA project was found still secretly running on President Cheney's orders? That was spooky. And that was only the one that they found.

No but the reward for pirates and Bin Laden is getting closer and closer
I have no doubts that soon we'll have a fine for
sharing 15mp3 or a movie that will be comparable
to 50M$. This guy was lucky he was only fined
250000$ if you compare that to the woman who was
fined 2.5M$ for sharing 12mp3. I bet you could do
better if you went to robe the bank.

RE: FBI makes arrest in 'Wolverine' uploading case
Now would a movie this bad suffer from piracy? Yes. If there was
no other way to download it.
I didn't bother Dow loading this one though. And I didn't see it in
the cinema either. I'll wait for the DVD to hit $1 at civic video, then
get someone else to rent it.

What also needs to be said is that looking at gross sales there was no impact on the film.
These damages claims are completely ridiculous.

RE: FBI makes arrest in 'Wolverine' uploading case
Is Fox going to pay the man for giving them the extra
publicity? >4million extra viewers must be worth some
money.

WHO CARES? The movie sucked anyway!
AKalafat@...21st Dec 2009 -
Ridiculous
I can't believe that our government is wasting so much time and money (of OUR taxes) to catch people downloading; isn't that some other corporations problem, not ours?
How come we have to pay for the FBI to spend the 8 months looking for some guy because movie makers cannot just watch over their own staff to not leak the movie.
We are turning into a fascist nation; the government cares more about movie leaks and music downloads then murders and actual corruption.
