Infineon unveils new Fibre Channel transceiver

Helping to push Fibre Channel technology forward, Infineon Technologies announced on Tuesday a Fibre Channel transceiver that transmits data at a rate of 4 gigabits per second. With the announcement, Infineon is promising faster performance than today's 1- and 2-gigabit Fibre Channel products.
Fibre Channel is an interface used to create storage area networks, which link storage devices together. Infineon said its new product will also provide a diagnostics monitoring interface for access to data such as transmitted optical power, internal transceiver temperature and supply voltage. The company expects mass production of a version of the device to begin by mid-2004.
