Intel to use EC slip-up in antitrust defense

Tom Espiner ZDNet UK | November 18, 2009 10:45 AM PST

Summary

Intel plans to use a finding of the European Ombudsman in its appeal against a European Commission antitrust fine.
Intel told ZDNet UK on Wednesday that it is likely to use the Ombudsman's finding that the Commission failed to adequately record meetings as part of its defence against the $1.45 bn (€1.06bn £951m) Commission-imposed fine.

"We do plan to raise this issue, and others, in our appeal," said an Intel spokesperson.

The European Ombudsman, which adjudicates complaints of maladministration by EU governmental bodies, said in a statement on Wednesday that the European Commission "failed to make a proper note of a meeting with computer manufacturer Dell relating to the Intel investigation".

The Ombudsman found that the Commission had failed to take minutes of the Dell meeting on 23 August, 2006, despite the fact the meeting was concerned with the Commission's Intel investigation. In addition, no record was kept of the agenda of the meeting, said the Ombudsman.

Thank you for venting on a bulletin board. We
all hope you feel better for it. At the end of
reading your posting we are all now aware that
you think "socialism" is a dirty word (without
any explanation why) and that you think the
European Community (which by the way no longer
exists and has been replaced by the European
Union) is unable to develop technology (again
without any evidence). It also seems likely that
you were negatively disposed to the European
Union before you read this article, presumably
on the misplaced basis that "Europe" is
"socialist". You have not added any evidence for
your remarks and you hardly even develop any of
the information in the article.

In your next posting it would be great if you
could add something to the discussion. Of
course.... in replying to you, I have also
failed to do so....

International Socialism......

This is pathetic work by the EC. They can't develop their own tech so they just go out and skim off everyone's balance sheets. How pathetic. Losers.

Same thing with Oracle

I really can't say I'm a big fan of Oracale, but my guess is that the Oracle/Sun merger will be allowed to happen only if Oracle relinquishes control of MySQL to a European open source company.

I hope I'm wrong, but lets wait and see.
