Intermec lands federal RFID contract

Intermec Technologies said it has won a big contract with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Coast Guard.

Intermec Technologies, a maker of RFID equipment in Everett,Wash., has won a big contract with the U.S. Departmentof Defense and the Coast Guard, the company reportedon Friday. Under the agreement, Intermec will providethe agencies with "RFID technical engineeringservices." The company won a separate contract earlierthis year to supply the government with RFID tags andreaders.

RFID stands for radio frequency identification, atechnology that allows people to identify and trackpeople, animals and goods via wireless networks. TheDepartment of Defense is bulking up on the technology to aid battlefield logistics.
