Available in 160GB and 250GB capacities, the NAS servers act as storage appliances on a computer network, giving Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and Unix PCs a storage and backup location. At the same time, the servers simplify file sharing, backup, and recovery in mixed computing environments, Iomega said.
Built-in 802.11g support, which is backwards-compatible with 802.11b, allows for wireless traffic between a network at the NAS 100d server at up to 54 megabits per second. All wireless connections can be secured using the WEP protocol for protection against unauthorized access.
The NAS 100d can be configured as a wireless access point for other wireless PCs, using its 10/100 Fast Ethernet port to connect to the network and provide users with a hot-spot; or as a wireless node on an existing Wi-Fi network.
Other features include dual USB 2.0 ports for connecting external hard drives as storage needs increase; plug-and-play installation with Web-based configuration; and Iomega's Automatic Backup software, a client backup solution that supports multiple networked PCs. Iomega plans to add support for its REV removable-media drives later this year.
The NAS 100d comes with a two-year warranty; a one-time charge of $179 adds a third year, 24/7 phone and e-mail support, and next-day shipping on advance exchange replacement parts.
The 160GB model is available now for $499. The 250GB model will ship at the end of the month for $599.
