iPhone OS 3.0 now available
Summary
Topics
Current iPhone owners can download the software from iTunes for free, and iPod Touch users can get it as well, but for a fee of $9.95, just like the last OS update.
The update includes many functions other phones have had for a while, including multimedia messaging (if supported by your carrier--AT&T won't offer it until later this summer), voice recording, buying and renting movies and TV shows over the air, full system search, tethering (again, if your carrier allows it), and push notifications.
Apple has also bundled in some extras, like landscape virtual keyboard for certain apps, more extensive parental controls, in-app purchasing, and a feature for MobileMe customers called Find My Phone.

There will also be stereo Bluetooth available, as well as the capability to create applications specifically for interfacing with third-party hardware. That could lead to a boon in the accessories market for the iPhone as well as the iPod Touch, as CNET's Donald Bell has pointed out.
As anticipated as Wednesday's OS 3.0 launch is, it's only the second most important product rollout for Apple this week. The new iPhone 3G S is scheduled to hit stores Friday morning. In the meantime, check out our full review of the iPhone 3G S and our detailed look at OS 3.0.

What a joke Iphone 3.0 update is for AT&T customers
What were we waiting for a stupid voice recorder (already a free app in apps store from other developers) and cut and paste and landscape mode.....what happened to the hundreds of additions to the 3G version?
NO MMS on AT&T until summer....No video capability added into the camera so now we all have to go out and buy the 3G-S to do video? while some are still locked into contracts for their 3G?
Big disappointement leaves an existing 3G customer feeling stuck and completely short changed.....Nice Job Apple your turning out to be bigger jerks than microsoft!!!!!

Amen Brother
Cut and Paste... Great.
But, Apple has gone out of its way to block any and all software apps that record video on the existing 3G, and has given the lamest reasons for this action. Its transparent that the only thing at play here is that apple wants to sell new hardware. I can't blame them for that, but the way they've decided to do it is just wrong.
Apple, find a better way, this kind of business practice just aggravates and offends your current customers. I would suggest maybe a $20 video app for the 3G w/ half the resolution of the 3GS... New product new cost, I can get behind that. But to just leave current customers in the cold is unnecessary and arrogant. And when the time comes to find a new phone, that arrogance won't be forgotten, and I for one will be looking more than just a nice piece of hardware.

RE: iPhone OS 3.0 now available
I can't believe that current iPhone users still have
no voice dialing. since many states requires
handsfree phones legally, I would have thought that
any phone not capable of that is practically illegal,
if not useless.
From what I understand, the iPhone 3G is capable of
running the voice dialing software, but it works
better on the 3GS.
when we bought i phones, I didn't realise that they
still made phones that did NOT have voice dialing.

RE:voice dialing
If voice dialing is such a big deal for you, I assume you've already
perused the app store and found the (free) "Say Who?" app. Which leads
me to two possible conclusions: 1) you found and installed the app yet
you're an indignant prick and still feel wronged for something that was
very simple to rectify on your own, or 2) you didn't bother to search the
app store and you're a whiny b*tch that lacks any initiative to take care of
yourself, shirking responsibility to those around you.
Either way, shut up. You're not going to find the pity you seek here.

Apple to existing 3G users wanting Video Recording... Kiss Off
