Representatives Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.) wrote letters to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski, citing potential issues that could affect competition in the television market, as well as with how consumers are presented with content.

"The proposed Comcast-NBCU transaction would allow Comcast to acquire an unprecedented concentration of national programming assets," Congressman Markey wrote to the FCC. "The joint venture would give Comcast the power, should it choose to exercise it, to deny programming to its cable, satellite, or online competitors or charge inflated prices for it."

Markey went on to say that he would like to see the FCC, if it approves the merger, require "arbitration and standstill mechanisms for Comcast-NBCU's broadcast and national programming." Arbitration would be used if the newly formed company faced arguments with third parties over its programming availability.

  • Mastercard and Freedom

After all what?s the point of freedom and responsibility and opportunity if you are denied such things only to have the world figured out and sold to you in convenient episodes that so often serve to conveniently serve the indoctrinated/vested power bases and their infomercial packages?

After all is it really all about freedom as Mastercard so often boasts in its commercials? I wonder...

No deal Noway , 30 years ago companies like Comcast "convinced" people to throw away the television antenna , that Broadcasting television was poop! They declared for a simple 20.$ u.s , We the people would get HBO , Mtv , Vh1 the works. Soon after all we got was a 200$.U.S. monthly bill with a nice " We own your opinion because we own your wire ". And now that billions of miles of wire is in the walls dead because Comcraps bad business practices they want to jump to wifi. Don't even mention election coverage. The truth is Comcrab doesn't give a crap about anything but control.

@cybursoft Comcast acquiring NBC is the worst idea yet. When will sanity and fairness return to the business model (or Congress?) This FCC should squash this merger like a bug.

Representatives Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.) are the only reps (so far) that should be re-elected. They, at least, recognize that Comcasht is in it for the money, not customer service and will do anything to take over the cable market as a monopoly. I'm on directv by the way!
