Linux specialist MontaVista raises new funds

MontaVista Software, which specializes in a version of Linux for embedded computing devices such as video recorders or network equipment, has raised $7 million. Siemens Venture Capital led the investment round, with China Development Industrial Bank, Samsung Ventures America and Infineon Ventures participating.

The company has raised more than $72 million to date, including $28 million in 2002. MontaVista competes with Microsoft, a host of embedded Linux specialists and Wind River--an embedded computing powerhouse that has embraced Linux through a partnership with Red Hat.
