Microsoft representative said the show - a variety show to be done by Alex Borstein and Seth MacFarlane - was not "a fit with the Windows brand."
Microsoft said Monday it has canceled its sponsorship of a planned variety show with the creator of the "Family Guy."

  • Viewers watch Family Guy because they want to
not because it's forced in to their cubicles at work.
That doesn't fit with the Windows brand, indeed.

  • Who's running MS these days?
"In a statement, a Microsoft representative said the show--a variety

Surely this could be seen long ago. What a bunch of clowns.

  • Exactly.....
There is no way in hell that Seth could resist
poking fun at MS... He probably had Stewie
going gaga in some gay way over windows 7 while
Brian tried to talk sense into him and Peter
couldn't figure it out regardless of how simple
everyone said it was.... And overall it made
    fun of MS...

What did MS expect from a family of
    dysfunctional cartoon characters??? That they
would all harmonize and sing the praises of
winblows-7 ??? Yeah right... That would be the
most boring, lamest Family Guy ever... I'm
guessing the Bozos at MS have never actually
watched an episode of Family Guy...

  • MSFT tried to alter the content of the show
"Microsoft sent MacFarlane and Fox several notes expressing their concern over the show's content but ultimately decided just to drop out."

The show will go on - without Microsoft:

"Fox decided to air the "Almost Live Comedy Show" special as part of an all-MacFarlane night on Nov. 8."

  • A straight out lie, HollywoodDog?
You claim Microsft did something wrong, that they somehow tried to "alter the content of the show" yet the very paragraph you refernce says something totally different.

If a sponsor does not want to be associated with a skit due to it's subject matter and can not have it changed, then it is their perogative to remove themselves from sponorship, or not even ask to have it changed, just drop out as it will not even be worth the trouble.

Or as many ABMer's like to proclaim "vote with their wallets".

Looks like Microsoft "voted with their wallets".

  • "Yanking" their sponsorship is one thing,
pressuring the show to change the content or else sponsorship will be yanked is another.
Kudos to McFarlaine for telling them to go reboot themselves.

  • Maybe MS decided not to associate themselves
with a show aimed at viewers that have an emotional age of 6.

Fox touts itself as the network of the young and hip, aiming their programming exclusively at the 18 to 24 age group, but the fact is that most of their shows consistently wind up at or near the bottom of the ratings heap. I guess being young and hip really means watching elsewhere.

  • I'm glad I don't live at your house
And BTW - I'm 50 and find the intelligent yet immature humor a break from the world of self-important, head-up-their-a** people out there.

I bet you don't understand the real humor behind Bugs Bunny, either.

I recommend 5mg of Xanax, 2x a day. That should get you back among the living.

  • Oh come on...
That is how this business works. it is a matter of brinkmanship. Talent threatens to leave if they don't get the money they want. Sponsors threaten to pull out if this gag or that skit isn't dropped or changed. No big deal. Let's face it, "Family Guy" usually has something to offend everyone, that's why it appeals to the 10 year old in me.

Why is it hip and cool for Apple to play absolute dictator over its branding yet Microsoft is somehow stuffy?
