Motorola on Friday announced a partnership with Oakley, a maker of sunglasses and other accessories, to create wearable Bluetooth-enabled communications products.

The companies said details and designs will be announced in mid-2005.

Bluetooth is an emerging technology that lets electronic devices such as computers, mobile phones and headphones wirelessly communicate with one another over short ranges.

Motorola has been making several moves of late to jazz up its image. The deal with Oakley--which also produces apparel, footware and prescription eyewear--comes on the heels of a similar venture between Motorola and apparel maker Burton of Burlington, Vt., to develop outerwear that uses interactive cell phone and portable-music technology.

Additionally, the cell phone company in July announced plans to work with Apple Computer to combine its iTunes software with Motorola's handsets.

Other companies have also been exploring the combination of technology and apparel.

The Gap, for example, recently announced a hooded sweatshirt with a built-in radio.
