Oracle expands Linux commitment

Database software maker Oracle will expand its internal use of Linux, Charles Rozwat, Oracle's executive vice president for server technologies, told attendees of the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo on Wednesday. A year ago at the show, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison pledged that the company would run its internal operations on Linux. Rozwat said Oracle now will move to Linux as the primary base for its software development effort.
"We will have Linux workstations on the desktops of every one of our developers," Rozwat said. "We will run our base development on Linux for all of our products." Among those at Oracle who will develop products on Linux are roughly 3,000 working on Oracle's database and 4,000 working on higher-level server software. Until now, Oracle mainly used systems from Sun Microsystems for its development, according to Sun executives.
