Palm Pre defect poll prompts analyst to 'sell'
Summary
Topics
The poll, which took place on the PreCentral.net website, saw 40 percent of respondents claiming they had returned their Pres due to manufacturing defects. Based on that poll as a major source of his information — another was direct questioning of retailers — Jesup & Lamont analyst Kevin Dede recommended: "Sell."
"Golly, our own forums being used to advise investors, we're honored," blogged PreCentral.net writer Dieter Bohn on Monday.
"Our forums - God love 'em - are likely to have a higher-than-average rate of people experiencing issues with the Pre. One of a forum's main functions is solving problems, so people without problems may not head there. Our PreCentral.net forum members understand that context and take the poll within that context. Your average investor reading a release from an analyst firm may not."
ZDNet UK has asked Palm for its own Pre return figures, and for clarification on the widespread complaints over the handset's build quality. No reply had been received at the time of writing.

palm shares - "sell" recommendation
Wow, I wonder how much this "analyst" might have invested with Apple? Mmmm... Apple was obviously jolted by Palm's unexpected rise in the market and had to cut it's I-Tune support to this device with a "software upgrade". Any chance this is just another cheep shot by Goliath to keep a rising David from becoming competition?

ARE you implying...
That Apple Fanboys would go on a forum and post LIES about a competing product like the Pre? Are you saying People that don't even have a Pre would vote in a Poll saying the PRE sucks and they have returned maybe humdreds themsleves. haha no way anyone would ever try to Manipulate a POLL for their own AGENDA... Especialy if let's say APPLE Paid an analyst to use bogus info to make a SELL recommendation based on faulty data. NEVERRRR

Anyone who listens to an analyst who
based his recomondation on a website (that could be flooded with iPhone or Android users "problens"
) deserves what they get.
The problem is that is unfairly effects Palm.
I agree, base it on Palm's or the carrier's numbers, not a web site.

You'd think...
...this would shoot all credibility for this analyst and/or firm out the window.

Palm defect analyst sell
Wow! Are you Pre enthusiasts really this paranoid?, This insecure? This
deluded? I am an Apple Fanboy... have been since 1982, thru all the bad
times & now the good times. But I was NEVER this PARANOID or
INSECURE. I was loyal despite the critism o those who didn't have a clue.
Do Palm Pre & yourselves a favor and stop this ridiculous paranoia!
Waddaya care about what other people think? Just realize that there are
some issues with the Pre, hang in there, proselytize, and make the damn
thing work! It's up to you to make the rest of us believers! And PULEEZE,
grow a pair & stop this adolescent whining.

Note the 10th grade reference...
..probably written by a child.
Phonological awareness is more indicative of
intelligence than one's command of the intricacies
of spelling in the English language. I prefer
proper spelling, but I no longer make the mistake
of believing I'm superior to the person that
cannot spell.

Jesup & Lamont!!??? You're kidding, right?
Jesup & Lamont - go ahead, check em' out. Their stock trades at about 30 cents a share. It's a very small operation.
Make sure you read Palmcentral's response to Jesup & Lamont's take on the limited information that's out there. http://www.precentral.net/analyst-claims-palm-pre-return-rates-are-high-were-not-so-sure

RE: Palm Pre defect poll prompts analyst to 'sell'
While I respect Dieter's reply to this "controversy," I wish ZDNet would not give this ludicrous, poorly "researched" analyst report the attention it doesn't deserve. By the way, I've polled 100% of the Pre users in my house, and we're very happy. Yes I am. {ProfJonathan}

I agree but
This umm Factless research is being reported all over the world especially in markets where the PRE will go next. Damn the Apple HATEMONGERERS are achieving their Agenda. Even if these morons convince just a few people not to buy a PRE. Truth and Justice will have lost out.

Another Analyst: Fewer than 250,000 Pres active in mid July
Seeking Alpha July 21, 2009
"More bad views for Palm's (PALM) Pre Tuesday morning,
more good news for Apple's (AAPL) iPhone, more mixed
views for the rest of the wireless bunch from a couple
research notes put out by JRPG LLC, of Littleton, Colorado,
which bills itself as an independent research firm covering
the wireless industry.
"Handset analyst David Eller sees Palm?s returns on the Pre
creeping up, much as Jesup and Lamont analyst Kevin
Dede opined Monday. Eller says he thinks there were fewer
than 250,000 active Pre units at mid-July because of
returns caused by a keyboard issue."
" He says Sprint has considered lowering its Simply
Everything plan to $79 in order to stoke interest in the
Pre. The alarming thing is that a 250,000 number for
active units at mid-July would mean that fewer than
50,000 Pres were sold since the end of june, which would
result in a weekly shipment rate of 25,000 units for the
Pre, considerably lower than the 117,000 weekly units
Sprint would need to ship to maintain the exclusive
agreement with Palm.
--
"In addition to those Palm notes, Eller writes that Apple's
iPhone 3G S had a very successful launch in June, and he
estimates that AT&T (T) activated 2 million or so iPhones in
the June quarter of which 1.4 million were the GS model.
He says data points from China indicate that supply has
now reached 6.5 million units of the 3G S. Nokias (NOK)
N97 smartphone, by comparison, may only be reaching
production of 1.2 million."

I have to agree with everyone else on this... his research is questionable.
Questionable research leads to bad decisions. Has anyone considered the fact that this guy may have owned a bad one and was peeved?
I consider analysts generally biased in some way. They may just like or hate a product... they may have a grudge agasint someone at the company... who knows.
I use them like i use critics.. i read the details of their complaints.. then weigh the facts to what i know and can find out.
