Martin LaMonica | August 11, 2003 5:24 PM PDT

Database developer Pervasive Software said Monday it will acquire Data Junction, a data and application integration company, for about $51.7 million. Pervasive said it will pay $22.1 million in cash and 5 million shares of Pervasive common stock to buy Data Junction. Both companies are based in Austin, Texas.

Pervasive sells a database management system that is embedded within other applications. The system is targeted at midsized and small businesses. The company said it intends to incorporate Data Junction's data integration software, which transforms and transports information between data sources, into its line of data management tools. The deal is the latest in a series of data management-related acquisitions in the past few weeks.
