Progeny gets Linux standard certification

Progeny, which sells a Linux product based on the Debian version of the operating system, has been certified to comply with the Linux Standard Base, the company plans to announce on Tuesday. Progeny will become the first Debian-based version to achieve the certification, the company said.

LSB seeks to standardize how some aspects of Linux work, making it easier for software makers to write programs that run on different companies' versions of the open-source operating system. Other companies with LSB-certified Linux include Red Hat, SuSE, Mandrakesoft, Conectiva, ThizLinux, Sun Wah Linux and Turbolinux.
