Reddit co-founder charged with hacking MIT

Aaron Swartz, co-founder of popular social sharing site Reddit, has been indicted on charges of stealing millions of documents from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Swartz left Reddit in 2007.

The charges, filed by the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts and unsealed on Tuesday, allege that Swartz broke into a restricted area of MIT and accessed its computer network to steal over four million documents from the JSTOR academic paper service.

According to the New York Times the charges include "wire fraud, computer fraud, obtaining infrmation from a protected computer and criminal forgeiture."

Must have been something very interesting or he/she would have gone to school at such a well known and exceptional University. The research has to be really sensitive to the Government.

@masonwheeler Fraudulent Schemes is the usual legal charge for stealing information that isn't yours, which is a felony conviction for some people.

Hacking like this takes really big B@lls, unlike the recent "I could take your money if I wanted to because I'm attacking the wrong people" stuff. Too many very immature and angry overgrown kids vandalizing personal property and inconveniencing the regular schmuck who needs a decent credit rating to get a house or car for example.
