Skype drops Windows Mobile and Skype Lite
Summary
Topics
The download pages for Windows Mobile and Java have been removed from Skype's site, although existing users will not lose functionality for either Skype for Windows Mobile or Skype Lite, the company said on Thursday.
"Neither of these apps offered a great Skype experience," Skype said in a blog post.
Specifically, Skype Lite's limited country list was a hindrance for many Java phone owners, and calls dipped into the user's bank of minutes, according to the company's critique of its own products. For its Windows Mobile showing, Skype also cited difficulty maintaining the app's behavior from one device to the next. As some of the Java phones now also overlap with the Symbian operating system, Skype said it hopes Nokia users will pick up Skype for Symbian.

Skype
I am onloy surprised that it has taken them so long. Apart from 3, in the UK, I should think that most mobile operators would do their best to make it difficult for skype to work on their phones.

I use Fring.
I make SIP-to-SIP calls (Session Initiated Protocol) and did not care about Skype anymore.
During 2007, I've used to make Skype-to-PSTN calls using a USB Skype adapter, but I got tired of Skype due to sex chats (even the highest privacy settings still allow sex chats from people I don't know who I'm dealing with). They just want me to use MSN Messenger and wants to see me through the webcam but I don't have one. It's mostly when it comes to porn, which I'm very strict about not allowing it and end myself up being arrested for child porn.
In my opinion, sex chatters does seem to dominate Skype.

you are doing something wrong
I have to wonder what you are doing with Skype. I use skype all the time and never had any issues. I only get calls from people I know. If someone requests to be added to my contacts, I block/refuse unless I know them. Easy enough to do. I doubt I get even 1 unwanted request a month.

Old version of Skype
I've been using Skype for years, and the privacy
settings are usually sufficient, but for a period
during 2007-8 there was a version of Skype that
seemed to allow those sex chats to slip through.
As a matter of fact, many times I'd go in to see
that my privacy settings had been changed back to
accepting chats from everyone.
They're much better now.

Windows Mobile Skype
I tried using the Skype App on a Windows Mobile Phone for a while, switched to a Open Source VOIP app.

More customers
for Fring then. Especially as Fring is starting to also handle Skype Video calls.

RE: Skype drops Windows Mobile and Skype Lite
Microsoft doesn't even use Windows Mobile anymore, they've moved on. It makes sense that software manufacturers will as well.
