Summary

63 percent of computer users deem country-to-country cyber-espionage to be an acceptable act, according to a new report.

An alarming 63 percent of computer users deem country-to-country cyber-espionage to be an acceptable act, according to a new report by security vendor Sophos.

Released Wednesday, the survey revealed that one in 14 respondents believed that crippling denial of service attacks against another country's communications or financial Web sites were acceptable during peacetime. Another 32 percent said countries should be allowed to plant malware and hack the networks of private foreign companies in order to spy for economic advantage. Of this group, 23 percent said such actions were necessary only during wartime, the survey revealed.

The midyear online survey polled 1,077 computer users from across the globe on their attitudes toward cyber warfare and other IT security trends. When contacted, a Sophos spokesperson declined to say which countries were included in the poll.

Wow. That's a lot of sociopathic ignorants who responded to that survey! For some reason it's a sign of the times and such problems are escalating nearly daily. But those are large percentages.

  • International cyber attacks are (NOT!!!) OK
Its amazing how many so called friendly countries are spying on each other for economic advantage. There are more spies reporting back to big business than there are spies reporting back to governments. One of the major tools these spies are using is hacking.
How ever you look at it, country-to-country cyber-espionage is an immoral act and should also incur some large fines and imprisonment for those employing people to do this sort of thing! When someone is found doing this sort of thing it is normally a low ranking fall guy made to pay for it.
It is no different than a next door neighbour sneaking into your house while you are out and stealing your financial information so they can make a few extra bucks at your expense.
