Symantec wins $10 million in CD Micro case

Security firm Symantec announced Monday that a federal district court in Oregon awarded the company more than $10 million in damages in an infringement case against CD Micro. The award stems from a summary judgment handed down in July that found CD Micro garnered more than $3 million in profits from selling counterfeit Symantec software, the security firm said in a statement. The judge tripled the amount under federal trademark law.
The lawsuit began in April 2002, when Symantec sued CD Micro after receiving spam from the company that offered Symantec products at "grossly reduced prices," the statement said. Symantec investigated and confirmed that the software was counterfeit.
