Xandros polishes its desktop Linux

In a move that could appeal to customers ready to ditch Microsoft after the summer's spate of worms and viruses, Xandros announced its latest desktop version of Linux on Wednesday. The update to the operating system is based on Debian GNU/Linux, a fully free version of the open-source software, and the KDE desktop system.
Xandros Desktop 2.0 comes in a standard version for $39. A deluxe version, for $89, includes Crossover Office, which allows users to run Microsoft Office applications on Linux. The software will be available from Dec. 9 at the Linux seller's Web site, Xandros said. IBM and other companies, including Xandros, touted desktop versions of the Linux operating system at a conference this week in Massachusetts.
