Zone Labs announced on Monday that the company has updated itssecurity management software to include better handling of instantmessaging and policy enforcement.

The product, Integrity 5.0, enables companies to manage the security software on their employees' computers. The software can ensure, for example, that a worker's PC has not been compromised by an Internet attack before allowing access to an internal network.

"You can drop the person into a sandbox (a secure area) to remediate a problem," said Fred Felman, vice president of marketing at Zone Labs.

Firewall software maker Check Point Software Technologies bought Zone Labs for $205 million in December.

The Check Point subsidiary integrated its software with that company's products as well. The software can verify a user's identity with digital signature management products from Check Point and other device makers that comply with the 802.1x standard, including Microsoft and Cisco.

The latest version also adds ICQ filters to its IM capabilities. The filters stop any program sent through the instant messengers of America Online, Yahoo or Microsoft from executing.

Integrity 5.0 will be available in the spring of 2004; pricing starts at $65 per user.
