Nexus 7 starts shipping to those who preordered -- available in Gamestop for anyone
Summary: Buyers who preordered the Nexus 7 tablet from Google are pretty excited to get the gadget. Some of them may be upset when they hear they could have dropped by Gamestop today and picked one up even without a preorder.

The $200 Nexus 7 tablet excited quite a few folks when unveiled at Google I/O recently. Many pulled out their credit cards and preordered a Nexus 7 from Google, expecting to get it as soon as it was available. Some are getting notifications from Google that their precious has shipped to arrive soon. Others are just going to the Gamestop retail stores and buying one today. No preorder necessary.
I started getting word on Twitter today that preorders were indeed shipping from Google, as early buyers were getting email notification from Google that the Nexus 7 was on the way. Word of shipping units was confirmed by CNET. I am still waiting notification that mine has left the station on its way to me.
Upon getting word that the Nexus 7 was beginning to ship, some without orders headed to retail outlets carrying the tablet to see if they were available today. I've gotten word from two of them on Twitter that indeed the local Gamestop store had them for sale, no preorder necessary.
Needless to say some anxious purchasers of the Nexus 7 are a bit upset to not have their tablet ordered weeks ago, especially when others just go to the store and pick one up. Google needs to take a page from the Apple manual and make sure that all who preorder a device get them at the same time.
My own preorder has been a bit puzzling. When I placed the order a few weeks ago the charge hit my bank account as pending. Earlier this week the purchase with Google changed to charged and the purchase amount was deducted from the account. That was good news to me as it indicated the Nexus 7, that I am anxious to receive, would soon be on its way.
Today, the day others are getting those shipping notices and others are buying the Nexus 7 locally, the entire purchase price was removed from my bank account. I now haven't paid for my tablet according to the bank and to Google. It's like getting thrown off the bus to wait for the next one, I guess.

Or,
I think there is enough room under the bus for every one.

Gamestop?
Aren't they a gaming store?
Yes
Android's sluggishness makes it a crappy gaming platform
Google needs to fix the horrible response time to user input (and the still not that good calibration ... although it got better) before Android can be considered for anything but plain games with no near real-time response.
Project Butter
That may be why GameStop is choosing the Nexus 7 as one of their chosen tablets. Plus, it has specs that can compete with even ten inch tablets and the iPad. It may not win every battle, but it's still up there with the best of them, and less than half the price of the closest ten inch tablet with similar specs.
I don't know what android tablets you've been playing on
I've been able to play PC quality games like L.A. Noire, Darksiders, Laura Croft and the Guardian of Life, and Splinter Cell Conviction, with exceptional framerates, a feat Apple has refused to let their customers experience (Please Don't DENY it, lol).
So sorry, I don't agree with your assessment at all.
I currently have the Nexus 7 and gaming on it is phenomenal. Shadowgun THD, Dead Trigger and the like, are stunning. It's the best $250 (Preordered and picked up from Gamestop), I've ever spent. The Nexus 7 is a winner. Even Cnet loves it and we all know how they adore their iDevices!

You're high!
The GPU also has optimization that help make up for the lack of RAW power and actually has made it so many of the games actually run as good or better than the iPad versions.
I'm torn...
How strange...
When the surface comes out get one of them too! I'm Android through and through, but I really love the look of the Surface. At absolute worst I get a VERY high quality small media device.
In summary, get the Nexus 7 now, get the Surface later :p
"I get a VERY high quality small media device"
Nexus Now, Surface Later.
They are different enough that the Nexus 7 will still have relevance and use once Surface comes out. And with the $200 price point, it's really a steal!
Here is a suggestion .....
And about the Surface .... the thing is right now VAPORWARE. If you are going to wait for every vaporware that is announced expecting it to be better than what it is available, you would never buy anything.
The Reviews ARE out...
I'm a "REAL" user and this tablet is a winner. Check out some Youtube videos. These things are univerally being given excellent reviews. Cnet has it as it's Editor's Choice! CNET!!!
I have it and it lives up to every thing they said at Google IO. Have you seen the youtube videos on this thing... Voice search is smokin' fast, browsing is great, gaming is great. Whew... this thing kept me up all night playing with it and I don't even think I've scratched the surface of what it can do.
If you are looking for a 7" device. Look no further... this thing makes you beg Google to take your money!
You call a 30 minute use "review"???
And about the video ... your brain must be very slow to think that it shows good response time. Look around the 3:15 time ... watch the very visual lagging between the user's finger and the game sensors. The guy is moving his fingers and the circle (sensor) fails to follow his movements.
Typical
There was no lag in the video. You obviously have a problem with your eyes and the truth. I guess the biased eyes plays tricks on the brain. You're welcomed to you opinion. I have mine... which seems to correlate with everyone else's.
No lag in the video
And yes ... real reviews happen AFTER a person spends time using a product. That applies to ANY brand/model in ANY market.
You are just too much of a fandroid to see beyond your own bias.
