A successful $1.1 million seed funding round has seen National ICT Australia (NICTA) today announce the spinning out of Incoming, a mobile video startup that preloads video content based on a user's viewing preferences.
The startup uses a recommendation engine and content delivery network to preload video content over wi-fi. Incoming already boasts 600,000 users on the beta version of its mobile app, and over three million videos have been played.
"Incoming allows mobile networks to be used more efficiently in off peak periods, and enhances the user's experience by avoiding buffering and other interruptions common to streamed content," said David McKeague, CEO of Incoming in a statement.
Leading the round of funding was Sydney-based venture capital firm OneVentures, other funding partners were NICTA and Citrix Startup Accelerator.
OneVentures said on its website that over the next twelve months, it will work with Incoming to complete product development and work towards formal engagements with telco partners involved in trials.
