Nokia has officially announced the Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon Wireless in the US, which will go on sale on 16 May.

The Windows Phone 8-toting device, which had been heavily leaked already, was announced on the Nokia Conversations blog on Friday.

Like other members of Nokia's Lumia family, the 928 focuses heavily on camera functionality and performance and includes 8.7-megapixel sensor, optical image stabilisation (OIS), a Carl Zeiss lens and a Xenon flash.

The camera can also capture 1080p HD video along with high amplitude audio capture.

"To go along with the stunning imaging capabilities of the Nokia Lumia 928, we've built in three high-audio-amplitude-capture microphones to make sure you can capture high-end, distortion-free audio even in the noisiest environments," Jason Harris, US contributing editor of Nokia Conversations, said.

Other key specs of the device include a 4.5-inch (1280 x 768 pixels) OLED Gorilla Glass display, 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8960+WTR processor, 1GB RAM, 4G LTE connectivity, built in wireless charging and NFC capabilities.

It also includes Nokia's services, such as its HERE maps, HERE Drive and HERE City Lens for getting around. There's also Nokia's free Music service on board.

Internal memory is set at 32GB and also includes 7GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage.

The Lumia 928 is set to launch in the US exclusively on the Verizon network on 16 May and will cost $99 on contract after a $50 rebate.

For an unspecified "limited time" Lumia 928 purchasers will also receive a $25 credit for Windows Phone apps and games from the Marketplace.

  • 7GB of Skydrive

Would this be added to the 25GB of storage I already have?

    • NOPE

The 7GB doesn't come with the phone, it comes with a Microsoft Account. So you already have your free 7GBs.

  • Has Nokia Fixed The Lock Up Problem With Windows Phone 8?

I got a Nokia Lumia 822 from Verizon. It would randomly lock up. That is the screen would be black and it had to be rebooted to get it working again.

From the Nokia forums and others it appears that the problem affected more than one Nokia model. It does not affect all of the Nokia phones of a particular model but some significant number -- at least enough to be a significant complaint on the forums.

This is a known problem and one of the Nokia folks said that a fix was expected this summer.

Does anyone know if the problem has be fixed for the 928?
