Nokia's new MixRadio for Windows Phone takes on Pandora and Spotify
The Nokia Music service is a fantastic, free (low-cost premium service also available) way to enjoy tunes on your Windows Phone and today an update rolled out that improves your personal music experience.
I read about the news on WPCentral and then jumped into the Windows Phone Store on the Lumia 1520 I am testing to find an update for Nokia Music. The new service is branded Nokia MixRadio and focuses on the main strength of their service, the mixes.
Similar to how other services like Pandora, Spotify, Google Music, and Rdio work, you have the ability to help refine the mix to your listening preferences so the more you use the service the better the music choices should match your tastes.
According to the Windows Phone Store, these are the new features in Nokia MixRadio:
- Play Me is a personalized mix inspired by your unique music profile.
- Thumbs up/down to help you refine your music profile. I haven't seen this yet in the application.
- Share mixes with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, email, or SMS.
In addition to the new look and feel of the application, along with the new name, Nokia states that various bug fixes are provided in this update.
You get up to four playlists and eight hours of offline music for free, with no ads. For just $3.99/month you get unlimited downloads, unlimited skips, higher quality sound, and more. This was previously known as their Nokia Music+ service.
