Okta is in the process of updating its cloud-based enterprise identity network with some new features that are touted to be more community-oriented.

Announced amid its first user conference this week, the San Francisco-based business is tapping into a growing trend among enterprise software and services providers to basically offer customers with as many choices and connections between third-party apps as possible.

In Okta's case, the identity services provider is opening up its Application Network to customers in order to let them connect any application to Okta's network for the first time ever. That means that customers can submit applications for which they want to merge with Okta's single sign-on directory and provisioning services.

Okta, on the other side, will verify each app first to maintain a standard of quality while also managing these added apps from a single dashboard.

Here's a glance at some of the other updates introduced on Monday:

  • Customers can now customize and manage user profile attributes within Okta with automatic provisioning, de-provisioning, and profile synchronization across cloud apps, including Workday, Box, and Jive, as well as on-premises solutions such as Microsoft Active Directory
  • Okta Mobile Connect now comes with an SDK and a set of APIs intended to enable developers to integrate Okta's single sign-on capabilities across native mobile apps
  • With an iOS app already in place for awhile, Okta has added an Android app to the mix.

An exact launch date for the additional features has not been revealed. Okta simply stated that customers can expect them to roll out in the coming months.
