PayPal adds StackMob team to bake payments into more apps

Time for another acquisition before everyone goes home for the holidays. Once again, just like Cisco and Yahoo earlier today, this one is fueled by mobile interests.
PayPal is making a purchase of its own this week, incorporating the engineering team from mobile app development and production environment provider StackMob.
Founded in 2010, the San Francisco-based company offers a platform supporting datastore APIs and server-side custom code, among other features, for building and supporting mobile backends and open source software development kits (SDKs).
More pointedly, these resources would supply PayPal with a swifter mobile backend as smartphones and tablets quickly become the choice tool for making digital payments.
PayPal chief technology officer James Barrese explained further in a blog post on Tuesday that the addition of StackMob's brainpower will help the eBay subsidiary "move even faster in creating, testing and deploying products that aim to transform payments for customers around the world."
The infrastructure could also help mobile developers bake PayPal's payment structures and abilities into their own apps more easily as well.
Barrese cited a quote from StackMob CEO Ty Amell, who predicted that "our work at PayPal will make it easier for developers to create seamless payment solutions that span online, mobile, and in-store experiences."
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
