  Isn't this suposed to be for business? why family examples, and surely you will have a home office with a room adecuate for teleconference, besides, if someone would want to track your work, who cares about your face, they will care about what you are doing in the PC, however I think all this is unnecessary with systems like oDesk Team for example you only take a picture of your screen once in a while and you can delete pictures that invade your privacy, telepresence should not be that complex is absolutely useless and just a luxury to keep happy the cavernicole bosses out there who still think that teleworking is not productive

• why buy?

  Sooo why would you pay for this thing when you can use skype for free then ad a simple HD web camera and simple mic and good to go. I have an HPmini client with external harddrive connected to my 62" led tv with a microsoft HD web cam mic and wireless keyboard mouse combo and I can do everything right there using my at home wireless network. No additional fees

    Thought I was being bourgeois with 40" LCD... I must return for something BIGGER!! lol
    
    Oh, and yeah, there are many things that I look at and say, "Whut? I ulreddy du that fo free!!!"
    
    Case in point: Netflix.
    
    On Monday, October 18th, subscribers of Netflix who also own a PS3 will be able to go discless and stream Netflix directly to their PS3s for better picture quality, sound quality and convenience... I've been doing that since I bought my LCD... A simple VGA connection and now I stream movies directly to my LCD....lol
    
    Not bragging, folks. I'm just saying to use what you have. It probably does as good or better than the "new" thing...

  I work from a home office some of the time and have video conferencing on my work computer as do most of the people I work with throughout the day. No what none of us want to use it. Talking on the phone, email, & IM is enough. So unless you have close family a long ways away who would want video conferencing in the living room?

    The industry itself is a different story... Try "TechRepublic" if you want more rapid change. Sheesh, you could just do a simple Google search on "Computer News" and you would get quite a bit of newsletters and the like that are always featuring new industrial changes...

  I have to keep a shirt and comb near my computer, turn on the lighting setup that gives me a tanned look, select the backdrop curtain with the fake bookshelf and hobby momentoes, tuck the fake phone under my chin to simulate multi-tasking, use the foot controlled switches for a busy office sound and in-coming phones calls for the need to terminate, and set up my portable computer with talking points available as if I've memorized company data to video conference in my sound proof closet.

  Telepresence is expensive and does expose your home to be viewed by others. However there are reasons that people invite guests to their home -- if they can control who the guests are. Telepresence in the home might allow that loved one in Iraq to be "home for Christmas" while still in Iraq. Technologies tend to be expensive when first introduced but usually become much less expensive when they mature. Security vulnerabilities can be mitigated and usually are to an acceptable risk level within a couple years. Telepresence will probably become less expensive and more secure. I predict that it is too compelling a technology to not find a market for the home.

    No, it's 2010... And we've already paid for our "own spycams": They were subsidized by our tax dollars...placed on the satellites that orbit overhead...

  It will sell for the rich, who wants "status". Same as ultra large televisions, expensive cars, mansions, and so on. You (they) need these things? No, but you (they) want all of 'em just because it will make you (them) more "tasty" for social relantionships with the majority of (dumb) people.
