Drab GUI and EULA takes away rights
I thought the GUI was drabber than a Mormon wardrobe and the EULA makes you sign-away your rights.

Its an opensource project. If you don't want to post to their problem reporting site, then just don't go there. You took this out of context intentionally. It does not refer to the browser, but rather the problem reporting system and user comments system.

Oh yeah? Then why did they rescind it?

Methinks you underestimate their ulterior motive. Don't be naive.

RE: (First look at Google Chrome)
I guess I am an early installer of Google Chrome from South Africa, and all I get is the Aw! Snap message trying to get ZDNet and even South African sites like ananzi.co.za. I can't keep any web site for long either, when I do raise one. Every site disappears, and back comes Aw! Snap... Maybe my download is corrupt. So I put Avant back as my default browser, and ZDNet was up in an instant. Early days yet. But disappointing from a South African point of view. It's not our connection, as Avant manages without a hitch.

RE: (First look at Google Chrome)
Chrome is very fast but I find it is missing a lot of the features that IE8 and Firefox have added keep me happy.

RE: (First look at Google Chrome)
Looks an awful like Firefox and Seamonkey. At this point this would be the 3rd browser that I've tried. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the "anti-Microsoft" movement, but what would want me to make this my browser of choice over Seamonkey?
I was all into Firefox until Vista came along, and Vista wasn't my first choice either. The "new" computer was ordered with XP but came with Vista and for some reason, Firefox wouldn't install, and I "settled" for Seamonkey, which has been working well.
If someone can sell me on Google's web browser, then I just might bite on it.

Firefox / Vista?
What version of Vista are you running that FF won't install? I am currently using FF 3 with Vista Home Premium, though that may change.

RE: (First look at Google Chrome)
well a new look for google but the browser will need tools
jetcastraido18@...2nd Sep 2008 -
WHY ?!?
Why on earth do we need another browser? One more damn thing to develop exceptions for - AND ZERO value to endusers. Smarten up google make something useful, like perfect your shared spreadsheet, shared wordprocessor technology. Or make a better web development tool.

Chrome
Like the speed and the tabs at top but really miss
Google Bookmarks. Hope they will add them at a later
version.

To grow a better potato ..
Why indeed? Another browser. But then why another search before Google. Time will tell. I don't need it at present.
To me, the best browser the world has ever seen is FIREFOX 3.0.1 I have the add-ons I need and find that only MS Silverlight does not work.

RE: (First look at Google Chrome)
Is disappointing.. Google would have best put their bets on FF its a fine browser.. I guess uses Gears in the backend.. I guess they got it out so that they could push gears on to the desktops and then make their Webbased Spreadsheets and Word processors useable.. Frankly I installed it and then uninstalled it.. Google is emerging as a company that has a lot of stuff all of which is very mediocre except for its search.. For now I am sticking to FF 3.X and IE7. May have a relook a couple of years from now..
