    It depends on what level in your head you would like the tumour to start... as radiation power is squared to distance as light so if you belived this stuff 9% would be a lot (grin)
    The only parts of the body that can be affected by (non-ionising ) radiation at these levels if at all, are those with low blood supply so it is as with microwave ovens your eyes & testicals you have to worry about....

    • Cellphone radiation is non-ionizing

      and therefore cannot cause cancer. But, at least it's nice to know that say the word "radiation" and you get the predictable knee jerk of ignorance.

    @jpotter@... The 9% difference only applies to those phones in the "highest radiation" list -- the phones in the subject article. Click on the "Here is the full list from CNET Reviews" link at the bottom of the article to see phones that have MUCH lower radiation levels.

• Much ado about nothing

  The more legitimate research that's done in this field, the more we keep learning the same thing: The greatest health-risk cell phones pose to humans, is distracting us while driving (or a jealous wife with gun who checked your phone log ;-) Microwaves -- that's what's emitted by cell phones, alone with other radio-frequency (RF) emissions -- do not cause cancer. But when people hear the word "radiation," they understand it to mean the same stuff as atom bomb fall-out, like gamma radiation, which cell phone's don't emit.
  
  And for those who have seen the (faked) YouTube video of cell-phones popping pop-corn, and who are worried that the microwaves emitted from phones will cook our brains: Yes, these microwaves do indeed heat up our brain, but less than wearing a wooly hat, or walking outside in the sun. And our brain is already superbly-equipped to handle that teensy-tiny bit of excess heat using cranial thermal radiation (i.e., the heat that escapes from your head into the ambient air) and the brain's blood supply. Again, zero risk.
  
  But facts don't sway emotions. That's why we have a good chunk of our population thinking a cell phone is like a small nuclear reactor, and they fear for their safety.

    @SteveMak - Now Steve, you know better than to let facts get in the way of a good panic. It is, after all, how governments maintain power and continue to convince it's citizens to allow it to increase taxes.

  It's seems that Blackberries.LG and Kyocera top the list of hi-radition cellphones..fortunely, most of these phones are not sold in Europe and I don't have one (thank god!)   The representation is a bit misleading - the Blackberries are "up front" by default, which makes it appear they emit the *most* radiation (i.e., "Cell phones with the highest radiation levels" and *bang* picture of a Blackberry). If you actually read the piece, though, they are actually the *lowest* radiation emitters in this group.

  It's not just the highest radiation - it's also the length of continous talk that matters. You can heat up a pot in short time with high setting or via slow-cooking (at a lower radiation setting) over time.

    Human beings have this temperature regulation system called blood that carries away any excess heat generated from cell phone radio waves. Since the human body generates much more heat jogging around the park, your cell phone is harmless. Relax.

• Title should be Blackberry has the LOWEST radiation

  The first two pictures of the article show BlackBerry phones even though they have the LOWEST radiation of any in the group. This article must have been paid for by Apple.

  This is a really DUMB Gallery offering; not because of the information it provides, but because of the FORMAT it is presented in here. We don't need pictures of these devices. What we need is the list, in some sensible order (Highest to lowest SAR rating) so that you can see the entire list at once and then gauge each device in regards to the others. This Gallery, my friends, is just silly.
