AT&T and Samsung held a special media-only event in New York City on Thursday to unveil the Infuse 4G, which is being boasted as the slimmest 4G smartphone nationwide. AT&T execs dubbed the device as the "supermodel of smartphones."

The Android 2.2-based device measures 8.99mm thin and weighs 131 grams (4.62 ounces).

The Infuse 4G hosts a pair of cameras: an 8-megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chatting.

The Samsung infuse 4G certainly feels thinner yet larger in the palm of one's hand, much like the HTC Evo 4G. Although it's compact in thinness, it's still a very large smartphone.

AT&T execs also boast that the Samsung Infuse 4G blends "functionality and beauty." Make no mistake, this is a consumer-friendly device rather than a business-oriented handheld.

A smartphone these days wouldn't be complete without a copy of Angry Birds. But the Samsung Infuse 4G has something special in store for fans of this popular game.

The Infuse 4G-optmized version of Angry Birds has a special edition "Golden Egg" level that has prizes available from Samsung. However, it's obvious from tests and the last two screenshots that the display does not toggle between landscape and portrait views.

Samsung is also inserting its Media Hub service with next-day TV episodes and latest movie releases. The first 500,000 subscribers will get a $25 voucher towards purchases.

The Samsung Infuse 4G will retail for $199 with a two-year service agreement once it is released on May 15th.
