Hands-on with the T-Mobile HTC HD7 Windows Phone 7 smartphone

T-Mobile rolls out their first Windows Phone 7 device on Monday, 8 November. The HTC HD7 is a rock solid piece of hardware that performs very well with Windows Phone 7 and should be attractive to many folks.

T-Mobile rolls out their first Windows Phone 7 device on Monday, 8 November. The HTC HD7 is a rock solid piece of hardware that performs very well with Windows Phone 7 and should be attractive to many folks. The retail package is solid and appears to be about the same as the HD2 device.

The HD7 is mounted just under the top flap and as you can see is a rather large device.

The wall charger, USB cable, and stereo headset are in bags under the HD7 mount.

There are several pieces of paper slid in the compartment under the HD7 bed.

The HD7 is a large device, but feels great in your hand and is sleeker and better built than the EVO 4G or HTC HD2.

The back is where you will find the camera with kickstand. The top 2/3 comes off to reveal the battery and SIM card slot.

You will find a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and the speaker opening on the upper back of the device.

As you can see, the metal piece around the camera flips open to act as a kickstand. The color under this opening is gray on T-Mobile, but has appeared in other countries in different shades.

The lower branding on the HD7 includes the name and Windows Phone. This area is not removable.

The top simply houses the power button for locking or powering down the HD7.

The right side is where all the business takes place with the volume button and camera capture/activation button appear.

The microUSB port, microphone, and 3.5mm headset jack are found on the bottom.

There are three touch sensitive areas under the display for Home, Start, and Search. You can also see one of the two openings here (grill in silver) for the stereo speaker system.

There is HTC and T-Mobile branding along the top, along with the other stereo speaker opening.

The HTC Surround and HD7 are the two first US HTC Windows Phone 7 devices and as you can see there is quite a difference in screen size.

With the kickstand extended you can enjoy movies on the go.

The kickstand is actually well balanced and you should be able to enjoy movies on the go with the HD7.
