1. Netbook

Product: Netbook
Price: A decent one around $300 or so (try looking here)

Reason to get: For those who can't afford a fully fledged laptop or any other device, a netbook is the perfect, little nifty thing you can get your hands on. Not only are they pretty cheap, but they can also run Windows XP pretty well which many people are still very content with. If you don't buy a netbook with a Windows license, you'll find them to be even cheaper.

The batteries last all day, they are very tough for their size, often running SSD memory and are great for student life. Plus, by the time that Chrome OS comes out, coupled with the already high demand for Ubuntu, a netbook is the perfect device to suit both of these operating systems.

Don't get: a thick, chunky laptop which could be used as a blunt object to kill someone with.

Get a 16GB Zune HD for $150 on Amazon. Larger beautiful OLED screen for pictures and videos, internet capable, sync through wi-fi, AND still run apps. Buy a feature stripped 16GB Nano 6G for $170 on Amazon. Pay MORE for less of a device. Do yourself a favor and get a 5g Nano that has better features. This model is Apple's way of separating your money from you to pad their profit margin. The 6G is the same price as the 5G and yet still costs the same.

Socially awkward? I don't think so. I am laughing all the way to the bank. Of course, people make poor financial decisions everyday in the US anyway. I suppose that is how people are losing their houses to foreclosure.
A netbook over an iPad . . . . no way!
Gee Zach, there's a social phone you forgot to mention that makes the iPhone and Blackberry look like last century's toys - called a Windows Phone. Or does the word iGeneration only refer to Apple cultists?

@tonymcs@... I do not see the WP7 phones taking off. BlackBerry's and iPhone's are highly Gen Y focused, and thus the Gen Y have taken to them in huge, huge numbers. I tend to focus on the majority of users, not the minority of one particular brand.
