Samsung OMNIA retail box

HTC kicked off the customization of Windows Mobile to a new level with the HTC Touch Diamond and now Samsung looks to throw their hat in the ring with the Samsung OMNIA (SGH-i900). The OMNIA brings a large display and a 5 megapixel to Windows Mobile that finally lets WM compete with Nokia in the camera phone department. Check out some unboxing and device images for the OMNIA I purchased in Singapore.

Nothing exciting for me to see...

I prefer QWERTY devices more than non-QWERTY devices.

I like HTC Diamond and HTC Touch Pro better than Omnia.
You haven't shown anything better than the iPhone... Can you do another gallery, detailing the OS? I have tested the other the previous Samsung Windows Mobile and I thought the "touch" feature to be under developed. On any WM device the stylus is still necessary. Is this one any better? The stylus design looks dreadful. Is that supposed to go on your key-chain?

I do like the dashboard feature with the BT and WiFi on off buttons.

I would like to have seen phone pics as well. How do you dial? How do you enter text?

How are gestures?

Any internet browser?

An extremely important point is totally missing in your article: Does it have a decent internet browser or only the MS junk?
If not, you'd have to add Opera to the price.

of an iPhone, and all of the hardware/software issues that have been reported.

The flexibility is a welcome thing after the locked down iPhone, and GSM, swapping out sim cards...this is freedom in a device that is awesome with best of breed mobile OS.
I wish someone'd send me something cool I could play with sad
First thing is first -- why does your "next image" click refreshes the whole page and resets the position so that you end up repositioning again and again and again... Its' just insane your webpage designers. Why can't you have them change in place, and be user friendly ??

As for the OMNIA, I could not get over to watch all the pics you've put there. So, its just annoying, how a simple thing like that can be such a put-offfff more than Samsung or Apple device !!
awesome happy feature list needed
Why can't these devices have slide out Qwerty keyboards? The only one I've seen yet is the HTC Touch Pro. On screen keyboards are a waste of time and valuable screen space.
Matt, Do you know if the Omnia will work with the Celio Redfly? Even with my underpowered HTC p3600 (WM5) and the resulting slowness and memory problems with the Redfly, I like the Redfly so much that compatability is one of the main factors in choosing my next phone. Things can only get better. Then again the the credit crunch rather undermined that particular cliche, so maybe not. Midgeslayer (Glasgow, UK)
Nice looking with great applications.
But, still Windows hang always and there is slowness.
When they are going to rectify this ???

Samsung as a device it's great - but using Windows OS makes feel bad of the device. The Windows Mobile devices are made to use "live" services - but when we keep it enabled - we need to beg our device for further usage.
When they are going to rectify this ???
now we just have to wait for it to come to United States and make sure it's going to at 3G speeds..
