You call this intelligent?
I would hardly call that intelligent response to a fellow poster. And where are the facts? What facts have you ever stated? The only "fact" you have stated is something about office toys, deflated balloons, burning through cash... oh wait, those aren't facts! They're pure speculation! What a novel idea; Loverock is full of it, can dish it out but can't take it, and is the only balloon of hot air that seems to be quickly deflating.
That, Loverock, is an intelligent response.
Obvious troll
Much the same as the Microsoft bashers. They make wild guess about the future in the hope that the future will not contain Microsoft. As usual year after year they are proved wrong. It will be the same with Google. The only thing I see sinking either Google or Microsoft is criminal accounting practices. If that ever occurs they will die. I don't see that happening for either but then did we see it coming with Enron, Worldcom, or Nortel? It's possible I suppose but then again so is me wining the lottery and quiting work.
Acct/Finance 101
With regard to stock price, it is simply the present value of all ANTICIPATED future dividends, supposedly. This means that even if Google were to never make a penny, that people BELIEVE they will...this is how many American iconic companies have been able to "weather the storm" through the good and bad.
Now, the argument that lawsuits will kill the stock price...there is absolutely no basis for that whatsoever. An accounting charge due to a lawsuit is viewed rarely viewed by Wall Street as a harbinger of bad things to come, which is the only factor in stock price...it is based on people's belief about the future. In fact, from a purely accounting side, a big lawsuit is actually a good thing from time to time...companies use periods of low revenue or losses to charge off big losses. The logic here is that if earnings aren't going to meet anticipated earnings by a small margin, it's no different than to be "off" by a large margin. It's called "taking a bath" or a "big bath" and it is a healthy process for a large corporation to go through it.
Just throwing in my accounting perspective...cash is dead and thinking about business in terms of "costs" is as antiquated as a rotary phone...we have to tihnk in terms of accounting, finance, Wall Street, etc. if we are to pose sound arguments about businesses and stock price and the such.
~my 2 cents...
