Sparklines: Excel's mini-charts

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that Office for Mac will have two features included in the latest PC version of the suite: built-in photo editing and mini-charts in Excel, known as Sparklines.

Office for Mac 2011 is set to go on sale in October.

Not new trick simply getting it right

How is it in office 2008 I can password protect a word or excel file and exchange it with a PC user but they did not put that capability into powerpoint? Who was the brain-dead manager that thought that was a good feature to exclude to save cost. Getting Entourage to actually do half of what outlook does, about time. If you ask me office 2011 should be a no cost update for those of us that shelled out money for the 2008 version. The only thing I see useful is them completing the 2008 version, finally!

Probably won't get it unless it has macro support, which the current version lacks.

Overpriced. Overfeatured

Strip out the fluff and make it worthwhile again. At half the price, it's still too expensive.

I'm so looking forward to Office 2011 because I use office on both mac and windows and Office 2008 on the mac absolutely sucks because it is so different than the windows version. I HATE office 2008 on the Mac!
I'm buying...or more like...my company will be buying me Office 2011 as soon as I can get my hands on it!!

I bought Office OS X with my G4 Power Mac in 2002, and have not bothered to update it since then. There are a few little "features" and shortcomings in the programs that I have to deal with, but I have been able to successfully use both Excel and Word for some fairly complex projects since then, and my familiarity with the original programs' limitations makes me very reluctant to spend the money necessary to upgrade to a newer version. I occasionally have a little bit of a compatibility problem opening files sent to me from outside sources (particularly Power Point), but I cannot remember ever receiving a file that I couldn't somehow find a work-around to open. I'm sure that the newer versions have some improvements, but I cannot justify spending the time/money necessary to purchase updated software and negotiate the learning curve required to make the software more useful to me than it already is.

Only PC version of Excel will download/update stock prices to a sheet.
