The new iPhoto app for the iPad impresses me more the longer I use it. The simple photo editing tools allow anyone to make a photo look its best with simple touch controls. It won't replace a full version of Photoshop, but many will find it sufficient for their photo editing needs.
Skype is not a new app but I find I use it a lot on the new iPad. The ability to keep in touch with family and colleagues remotely is a big boon, and the front camera of the new iPad works well with Skype.
Facetime is a nice video chat app, but most of my contacts are running Skype so that is what I use most.
There are games and then there are games that are totally immersive, and this one is a great example of the latter. The graphics are already stunning on the new iPad, without Retina Display support, and with headphones plugged in the game takes you away to battles far, far away.
