News Corps. Rupert Murdoch was on hand to launch The Daily which is a daily national news publication for the iPad that will offer the features of a newspaper. The Daily will be available beginning today as an app from the Apple Apps store and will cost 99 cents weekly or $39.99 yearly. It should be an interesting test case of how many people will be willing to pay for Web content. Larry Dignan explains.

The Daily will use a carousel for a table of contents that you can literally thumb through to tap on an article that interests you.

News Corp. thinks their sports section will be one of the hottest sections of The Daily. You can configure the section so that it will provide coverage of your favorite teams similar to what the local newspaper does.
