For its 2005 "American Idiot" tour, Green Day took MfA volunteers along to promote voter registration and issue education.
The awards event was a hipster's dream, with mojitos the signature cocktail, a silent auction of a guitar played by Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and late-night dancing with SambaDa.
Two of the young attendees at Music for America's Icon Awards, held at a loft/art gallery/club called Terra in San Francisco's South of Market district Thursday night. The event simultaneously feted donors such as tech venture capitalist Andy Rappaport and bands such as Death Cab for Cutie.
