San Francisco residents on Tuesday commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 1906 earthquake and fire by attending a parade and other festivities downtown.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom took time out from riding in the parade to thank members of the police force for serving and protecting the city.
