Sneak peak at leaked early Windows 8 build

Summary: A sneak-peek at an early, leaked copy of Windows 8 (build 7850)

 |  Image 1 of 5

With the ever present "shhh... let's not leak our hard work" wallpaper, in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, a small icon shows functionality relating to the user profile. These options include the choice to switch user, log off the PC or to lock the PC; similar functionality to that of the Start menu.

  • Login Option isn't an option, it's the user's name...

If you look at the other screenshot with the command prompt, the user directories' folder is named login, implying that it's the name of the user, same as in Windows 7.

  • Seriously ZDNet?

Seriously? A sunflower in the bottom right corner with a pop-up menu, and zero other changes, constitutes a leaked build? I wonder if the "This copy of Windows is not genuine" is highlighting the spurious nature of this supposed leak?! ;)

  • Windows Vista Again!

I bought into the hype of Windows Vista and then jumped into Windows 7 just to get out of it again! W7 is what Vista should have been. Having said that, W7 is completely underwhelming if not boring. I have to use Windows and hence have to suffer Apple envy (green ones) whenever I see my mates machines. When are we going to get away from this boxy clutter that is Windows and see something that you want to look at and feel pleasure in doing so. No more version numbers please, do something radical, do something sexy.

U guys can make all the fun of Microsoft you want. The simple fact is most people use Windows and it is very very difficult for them to switch. I had a computer business for about 6 years and never tried to really understand anything else. I had enough work trying to figure out what my customers needs were in Windows, I certainly did not want to try to teach them another operating system. When you have a customer who feaks out if you change the monitor, just thing what will happen with a change of operating sysems.

Well, the Start menu hasn't changed, but the DOS... er Command Prompt window has centralised title text, and that alone is worth the price of admission...

looks like they're copying the me menu implemented in ubuntu. Good for them.

me thinks this be crap, looks like crap, smells like crap, must be crap.

I for one see nothing that is even worth calling win8, more likely an SP2 update for win7.
