  • Where you should be: Account > Privacy settings > Apps, games and websites page.

Public search indexes your name and public information, which can then be searched for outside of Facebook -- through search engines like Google, or Bing.

    1. Click Edit settings under the Public search heading.

  • Where you should be: Account > Privacy settings > Public search page.

    - - -

To keep your data within Facebook, and to restrict it from being handed to third-party search engines, like Google or Bing, which would enable anyone on the web to search for you, it is highly recommended that you disable public search.

    1. Uncheck the box to disable public search.

  • Where you should be: Account > Privacy settings page.

Another new feature for Facebook users: this feature allows you to limit who can see posts and statuses that you have already put on Facebook in bulk -- saving you from a lot of time, having to go through each post you have made.

It's a very useful setting, but it can not be undone once you have done it. This is only for those who think they may have posts that are publicly available, for everyone on or off Facebook to see.

    1. Click Manage Past Post Visibility under the Limit the Audience for Past Posts heading.

  • Stay off

Yup, it is much easier to just stay off of Facebook.
I am on it, but, have no idea why. I have not seen any benefit from its use. Might use it if I was a teen.

So now the detailed control you used to have of your profile is gone. Now everybody can see my birthday and physical contact info, both of which are available on a need basis, it used to be controlled by a custom friend list and custom privacy setting.

Wasn't this "all" or "only things we think are important" the kind of security model in Windows before XPsp2?

  • ALL WALLS are now EXPOSED!

Even if you set your "privacy" settings to not allow anyone to post on your wall.....you can still "see" the wall!!!!
Is there anyway to "hide" it like before?
I ask, because i think FB is purposely wanting users to "slip up" - for example - if you comment on a company's wall or 'like' something -- it shows up on your wall for ALL to see.....even though you have set it for 'only you'.
They have taken away many of the privacy restrictions so now EVERYONE can see your wall -- and you have to go back and wipe everything clean (like "changing your profile) - because it shows up PUBLICLY!!!!
I've set everything I can to private/only me and still - EVERYONE can "see" my wall -- not everything posted on it - but stuff still shows up for EVERYONE to see.
    HELP!!!!!

Slide 4. Option (1) "Custom" does not appear even though I have friends lists. "Custom" DOES appear in option (4).
