Today, Steve Ballmer announced that he is stepping down from his position as CEO of Microsoft within the next 12 months. Whether you like him or not, Ballmer will probably be most remembered for his obvious enjoyment of his job. Here's an update to our Jan. 2011 gallery that shows off some of Ballmer's most memorable moments.
January 13, 2000, Bill Gates shocked the world by stepping down and appointing his long-term partner Steve Ballmer as CEO of Microsoft. At the time most everyone couldn't imagine Microsoft without Gates but 13 years after - Ballmer was firmly in charge.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Steve will best be known, publicly anyway, for his wide range of facial expressions and gyrations. When thinking about Steve Ballmer one of the first things that comes to mind is a video of his "monkey boy" performance to rev up the legions at Microsoft. In March 2008 he was asked to reprise his role - and did, photos, video.

On June 17 2012 Ballmer said that he was taking Microsoft on a new quest, this time as a maker of tablets. Tablets have long been a fixation to Microsoft with Bill Gates showing one off and touting their future as early as 2000 at Comdex. Despite a slow start Microsoft is banking on Surface's signature keyboard, Windows 8 and upgraded hardware to make it competitive with iPads and Android tablets.
