Just In

is this the beginning of the end

Ten years from now will we look back and recognize this as the final straw?

Their poor security and need to reinstall the OS to remove internet problems have left a trail of bogus lic. out there.

It still lies!

"Periodic reminders" != reduced functionality mode or shutdown switch. They need to divulge the truth about what will happen up front.

And one other concern....
techboy_z 29th Nov 2006
When you're not valid, it gives you the option to purchase a product key online and "convert your system to genuine Windows today without reinstalling Windows".

Uh...are they sure that counterfeited copies of Windows have only been cracked, and not also infected with bots, etc.? They'll "convert" you without reinstalling? I would hope there is some safety/signing check done on the installation, if it is found to be an illegal copy.

Just caring for the customer, eh?

I'm still waiting to see ...

What MS should have done originally!
randysmith@... 1st Dec 2006
This is a start towards what the WGA "beta testing" should have been indicating originally! If MS were not the 900 pound gorilla of the OS market, and in a truly competitive market, users would have dumped them after the original WGA.

it doesn't phone home and doesn't scan your machine and possibly your personal information as well...am in the process of learning ubuntu even though i have a legal copy of xp...m$ has just gone too far...their os is faulty as can be seen by the over 300mb of patches needed to keep the malicious coders out of your machine...we should sue them for our money back...soon they will have taken over my entire 120gig drive with their stupid patches...if i let them...

I think the whole process is illegal and wonder hy nothing is being done about it.I don't use anything illegal or ill-gotten,yet have had trouble in the past, passing the test.My copy, plus key came directly from MS and still have the carton it came in.Is the new one going to call home as old one did?.
