Windows Live Messenger 9

The login screen and version number - look closely and you'll see that it's different from previous versions... this one's been made in WPF/.NET 3.0.

"Funny" how we at http://www.mess.be have received two DMCA complaints for posting similar screenshots a few weeks ago. Will you let me know if they bug you too, Zack? Thanks!

Whats the deal with OneCare?
iravgupta 1st Sep 2008
You mention that one should install the OneCare antivirus, but let me tell you this, you can very well make WLM use any antivirus scanner to scan recieved files. For e.g. you can use avcmd.exe in Avira Antivir Personal to scan incoming files.

You're not wrong, but with my many years experience with Messenger, it seems the Messenger-OneCare plugin is the only one which works effectively against designed Messenger threats, whilst working faster than other anti-virus engines.

AVG, Clamwin, Kaspersky, Panda - all tried, some fail but OneCare still seems to do a better job.

Story

This whole blog has left a bad taste in my mouth. Half of those features where in Messenger 8, right before i stopped using it. Also, no one in there right mind would install onecare. I'm outa here!

ps i dont go around slagging of MS stuff. I liked using windows live, before i found digsby. I still hold onto my hotmail account, and use windows xp.
WLM is a very nice client wilt lots of whizbang features, all of which leave me completely flat because there is no way I'm putting up with a client with advertising.

As long the advertisments are well done, I see nothing wrong with them being in client applications. Remember, just as with most other types of media, ads provide a way for people to get services free in clients.
