Yep! that's how it went with my laptop. Quick and easy. I have been trying for over 2 weeks to do an upgrade on my desktop. I keep changing versions of video drivers (Nvidia) and Win7 still tells me that I may or may not have problems after the install. Well, it never does install. It get to the point of "completing installation" and just stops. I have left the computer running over night after the second try, and it was still showing me the same screen. Windows 7 will install on this same set-up but only as a "clean" install and of course that means a lot of file transferring which I guess is my next move.
