Gallery: CES gadgets - the first wave (updated)

The biggest U.S. tech trade show of the year kicks off on Thursday but the avalanche of new product announcements has already begun. Here's some of the new gear that could end up in your living room.

The new products for the biggest U.S. tech trade show of the year keep arriving in Las Vegas. At the Consumer Electronics Show, you could be seeing your new toys for the first time. Here is just a sample of what's out there.

Face it, in 2D high-definition equipment just doesn't look sexy. But wait until you turn it on. Andrew Nusca previews nine new LG LCD HDTVs and three new plasma HDTVs from 19 to 60 inches, some using LED backlight technology for those HDTVs, and some using "Netcast," a way the company will stream "broadband HDTV" (think Netflix). He's also got the scoop on a couple of new Blu-ray disc players from LG.

The Art.Suono Wireless Music Enhancing Transmission System and iPod Dock is a designer music player that lets users transmit any audio source - an iPod, a computer, a CD player, an MP3 player or satellite radio - to any audio system.

The Art.Suono is rolling out now at a suggested price of $1,499.

Texas Instruments is unveiling tiny mobile projectors powered by the DLP Pico chipset. Products include notebook companions, rojection media players, and projection cell phones. TI claims you can project a three-inch image to over 60 inches on any surface.

The Kodak Zx1 Pocket Video Camera is a bit more rugged than the current Zi6 with a sealed speaker and microphone for outdoor capturing in the weather. Matthew Miller has more details.

The Kodak Zx1 Pocket Video Camera is expected to be available in April 2009, and retail for $149.95.

Motorola on introduced the MOTO W233 Renew a 3G phone that's made from recycled water bottles. Larry Dignan says it's a bit gimmicky, but Motorola can use all the buzz it can get at the CES this week.

The HTC S743 with 850/1900 MHz HSDPA support is coming to CES. It is also a quad-band GSM phone so it will work with both T-Mobile and AT&T in the USA, with support for 3G only with AT&T. See why Matthew Miller is excited about it.

Toshiba hopes to raise some eyebrows with its feature packed Qosmio X305-Q725. The laptop is built for the gaming and entertainment enthusiast, and includes a 17-inch diagonal widescreen display, Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTX graphics, an Intel Core 2 Quad processor, a 64GB solid state drive, and Harman Kardon stereo speakers.

The Toshiba Portege R600-ST520W is weighs 2.4 pounds and is 0.77 inches thin. It is Toshiba's first ultraportable laptop with WiMax. The laptop will be available in late January for $2,149.

The biggest U.S. tech trade show of the year kicks off on Wednesday with a keynote from Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and the show floor opens officially on Thursday. But the avalanche of new product announcements has already begun. You could be seeing your new toys for the first time.

The Logitech G19 keyboard for gaming features a color GamePanel LCD that shows in-game information such as VoIP communication data, clock, CPU load, or other non-gaming specific items such as pictures or videos. You can connect and power devices such as the Logitech G9x mouse or Logitech G35 headset in one of two high-speed USB 2.0 ports.

The HP Pavillion dv2 sports the new AMD Neo processor - part of a new processor platform for very thin and lightweight notebooks. The dv2 is "just under" one-inch thick, and weighs 3.8 pounds, according to the company.

Lenovo is taking the wraps off the ThinkPad W700ds, which it claims is the first mobile workstation with two displays. It contains a 17-inch widescreen display along with a 10.6-inch screen that slides under the larger one.

Imation unveils new M-Class SSD drives and S-Class SSD drives which will be available in 2.5-inch and 3.5- inch configurations, respectively. The capacities of the drives will range from 32GB to 128GB.

The M-Class SSD products will be available beginning in February at an MSRP starting at $179.99

Lenovo unveils a new all-in-one IdeaCentre A series which sports a thick base that tapers to about an inch thick at the top. The 21.5-inch model gives full HD resolution (1,920 by 1,080 pixels), an integrated sub-woofer and Dolby Home Theatre audio, TV tuner and optional Blu-ray player. It also has an optional, Wii-like remote.
