HP's Elitebook business tablet arrives
HP has unveiled a tablet for business users, along with its lightest-yet EliteBook notebook PC and four new ProBook business laptops.
The new machines were announced on Monday. Both the EliteBook 2740p tablet (pictured above) and the lightweight EliteBook 2540p meet military-standard requirements for surviving vibration, dust, humidity, altitude and temperature extremes, HP said in a statement. It added that both also come with a trial version of HP's SkyRoom HD videoconferencing software.
All the new models will go on sale in the United States over the next two months at prices detailed in the following pages. UK availability and pricing has not yet been disclosed.
The EliteBook 2740p, the manufacturer's first multitouch-enabled tablet for business customers, weighs from 1.72kg depending on the chosen battery configuration. It comes with a 12.1-inch multitouch LED display as standard, although a version with less reflection and higher contrast, intended for outdoor use, is also an option.
An HP 2740p "ultra-slim expansion base" is also available, so customers can dock their tablet with peripherals when needed, according to the manufacturer. The base includes a DVD+/-RW drive, along with an eSata port for connection with external RAID arrays, hard drives and optical drives.
The tablet comes with a choice between the new Intel Core i3, Core 15 and Core i7 CPUs.
The 2740p will go on sale in the US in April at a starting price of $1,599 (£1,075). The expansion base will cost an additional $299.
HP's 12.1-inch EliteBook 2540p starts at 1.5kg, making it the lightest model released in the EliteBook range.
This weight depends on battery configuration. The options include a three-cell battery that provides up to four hours of use, a six-cell battery for up to eight hours, and a nine-cell battery for up to 10.5 hours.
Features of the 2540p include a two-megapixel webcam, a fingerprint sensor and integrated mobile broadband using Qualcomm's Gobi chipset. Customers will be offered a choice of Intel's new Core i-series processors.
The 2540p will go on sale in the US in April at a starting price of $1,099.
Four new ProBook notebooks were announced on Monday: the 13.3-inch 4320s (pictured above), the 14-inch 4420s, the 15.6-inch 4520s and the 17.3-inch 4720s.
The new ProBook s-series notebooks are available in two colours: 'caviar' and 'bordeaux', the latter shown in the image above. All the models feature Intel's new Core i-series processors and offer a choice between integrated HD graphics and discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4350 graphics.
The models all feature new multimedia controls for video, along with the ArcSoft TotalMedia suite for video and audio playback and editing.
The s-series notebooks will be available in the US in March, starting at $719.
