Image Gallery: Unboxing and first impressions of the Nokia N78

The Nokia N78 is starting to become available and I had the chance to try the European 3G model. A North American version with support for U.S. 3G networks should be coming soon. The N78 includes WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, S60 Feature Pack 2, FM transmitter, and more in a slim form factor.

The retail box focuses on the navigational functionality of the device. I have seen very quick signal acquisition and tracking on the N78.

The retail package is covered in a sleeve that shows the navigational functions.

After opening up the box, you can see the device and some more cool decor.

Under this upper flap you can see the device, battery, and stereo headset.

The plastic shell is taken off to take it out and insert the battery.

This is the second device in a row that comes with the compact A/C adapter.

The SIM is easily inserted below the battery.

On the left side you will find the microUSB slot, microSD card slot, charging port, and left stereo speaker.

The common gallery button is gone, but there is a camera button, volume buttons, and right stereo speaker.

The power button and 3.5mm headset jack are found on the top of the Nokia N78.

The microphone and lanyard loop are found on the bottom. The lanyard is attached by opening the back panel and hooking the lanyard on the loop.

Here you can see the size comparison of these three devices.

The N78 is the successor to the N73 and is an excellent device to follow the N73.

You get 3 free months of using the advanced features in Nokia Maps 2.0, but I am not sure if this is valid for the U.S. since this is a European model device.

The Nokia N78 is quite thin and feels great in your hand.

The N78 is the thinnest of the three devices.

The N78 follows the N73 in the progression and slims down quite nicely.

The camera includes Carl Zeiss optics and takes nice photos.

The back panel is brown and has a pattern similar to the N82, both of which may be hard to see in a photo.

The keypad has 4 bars with 3 keys across the device for each bar.

See how the backlighting shows the keys and buttons that are flush with the front of the device.
